MACON, Ga. – A trio of former standout Mercer student-athletes were inducted into the Mercer Athletic Hall of Fame during an alumni awards ceremony held last Friday during the school's Homecoming Week activities.
Â
Olivia Tucker (women's soccer, 2008-11), Ramiro Canovas (men's soccer, 2000-03) and Andrew Ureña (baseball, 2005-06) were honored as Mercer's Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2018.
Â
Tucker ranks third among Mercer women's soccer players in goals scored (32), including eight game-winners over her career. She is one of just 14 Atlantic Sun women's soccer players who earned all-conference honors four times in her career. Throughout her four years at Mercer, Tucker earned accolades that included Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year (2008), All-ASUN First Team (2009, '10, '11) and Atlantic Sun Tournament MVP (2010).
Â
Canovas scored 27 career goals and tallied 67 career points for the Mercer men's soccer team, both of which rank fifth and sixth, respectively, in program history. In 2002, Canovas was tabbed as the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year. Canovas was additionally the Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year in 2000 and earned All-ASUN First Team and Second Team honors during his career.
Â
Despite playing just two seasons for Mercer's baseball program, Ureña made an immediate impact with the Bears as a junior and senior. The right-handed pitcher left the program as its all-time leader in earned run average (1.30) and saves (20). As a senior, Ureña posted Mercer single-season records in ERA (1.30) and saves (15) while earning All-American honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). He was later selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 11th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft.
