Ball Paces Mercer at Linger Longer Invitational

Sophomore Spencer Ball tied for 12th individually
GREENSBORO, Ga. – Mercer shot a six-over-par 294 and owns sole possession of 12th place after 18 holes of play on the opening day of the Linger Longer Invitational at Great Waters at Reynolds Lake Oconee.
Sophomore Spencer Ball paced the Bears on Sunday as he shot two-under-par (70) and is tied for 12th individually with 36 holes remaining. Two Bears – Ball and Tyler Copp – are within the top 20 individually.

With 36 holes to play over Monday and Tuesday, Mercer is two shots outside of the top 10. In-state foe Georgia (-16) leads the 16-team field. The Bears also trail Southern Conference rivals Chattanooga (-5) and UNCG (-1).
Mercer on the Individual Leaderboard
Spencer Ball got off to a hot start with birdies on No. 1 and 2 en route to his two-under-par performance. A bogey on No. 3 and No. 15 hindered the sophomore, but he also added two birdies on the back nine (No. 14 and No. 18). Tyler Copp was four-under-par heading into the final three holes of play, where he stumbled with three consecutive bogeys to drop into a tie for 20th.
Coach Kayden's Take
"We were just lacking one score out of our guys today, otherwise it would have been a pretty solid team performance in Greensboro," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "We continue to get closer, but we're just waiting for that one round where all four guys get it going at one time.
"Obviously this is a very tough field – similar to a NCAA regional – so we have to play at a very high level the next couple days."
Monday's Tee Times/Pairings
Mercer is paired with Penn State and Virginia for Monday's 18 holes of action. The starting five will tee off on No. 1 while Lino Galdin and Nolan Miller will start on No. 10.
