Spencer Ball Qualifies for 2018 U.S. Amateur Championship

WATKINSVILLE, Ga. – Mercer junior Spencer Ball qualified for the 2018 United States Amateur Championship with a five-under-par (70-69) 139 performance at Jennings Mill Country Club on July 16-17.

Ball placed third out of 111 players at the qualifying event; the top five finishers qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship, which will be held at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, Calif. On Aug. 13-19. The Mercer standout made six birdies Tuesday en route to his second-round 69 score.

Ball's qualification for the U.S. Amateur Championship is a continuation of his strong play since transferring to Mercer from Armstrong State. The Suwanee, Ga., native tied for 11th place at the Georgia Amateur Championship last week and averaged 73.79 strokes per round over 28 rounds (10 events) during Mercer's 2017-18 campaign.

The U.S. Amateur Championship is the oldest USGA championship, created in 1895.
