
Rain Postpones Second Round at Inverness Intercollegiate

Bears in 12th after shooting 301 in opening round
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Mercer men's golf team shot an opening-round 301 and collectively made it through 12 holes of the second round at the Inverness Intercollegiate before tournament officials postponed play due to heavy rain on Monday.
Mercer will resume the second round on Tuesday morning ranked 12th in the team standings at 37-over-par; the Bears are currently +20 in the second round. Play will resume at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Coach Kayden's Take
"It was a tough day all around and we simply did not execute the shots we needed to make," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "We put ourselves in many bad positions and you just can't do that at a tough course like Inverness. We'll need to be ready to respond and be focused on strong play Tuesday.
"I'm proud of Tyler [Copp] for how well he has played this week...this is a difficult test of golf and he has handled it well."

The Bears were ninth overall in the team standings after one round of action at Inverness Club, having shot a collective 17-over-par 301. Although the second round has not concluded,

Sophomore Tyler Copp continued his strong play with a first-round 70 that included three birdies, two of which came on his final four holes (No. 9, No. 12). Copp was tied for fourth individually through 18 holes and will start Tuesday in a tie for sixth; he is 2-over-par through 12 holes in the second round.
