Mercer on D1Baseball’s Top 100 Programs

Bears only SoCon team on list
MACON, Ga. – Mercer Baseball was named the 86th best baseball program in the country on D1Baseball.com's ranking of the top 100 programs and was the only Southern Conference team to appear on the list.
Â
The rankings award points for making regionals and having postseason success in the last five years, and a fewer amount of points for success between six and 10 years ago. Mercer won four games in two days to win the 2019 SoCon Tournament and advance to the NCAA Regionals for the fourth time in the last decade.
Â
"Few mid-major programs have been as consistent as the Bears," Managing Editor and National Writer Kendall Rogers said. "Craig Gibson has done an impressive job throughout his tenure with the program. In addition to reaching the NCAA postseason this past season and two of the last five years, the Bears have reached a few more milestones. For instance, they've won 38 or more games three of the last five seasons, while also winning 35 or more games in each of those five campaigns."
Â
In fact, the Bears have won at least 35 games in each of the last 10 seasons – joining LSU, Vanderbilt and Florida State as the only programs in Division I baseball to do so. Just three years ago, Mercer added another impressive line to its resume as Kyle Lewis was named the 2016 Golden Spikes Award Winner – awarded to the top amateur baseball player in the country.
Â
"Mercer sits in a strong recruiting ground, has built a strong baseball reputation in the region and has a solid ballpark that it calls home," Rogers said. "Consistency has been the key for Gibson's Bears."
Â
The Bears have been named on all three of the Top 100 rankings that D1Baseball has released – No. 82 in 2015, No. 75 in 2017.
