Tucker Cannon, Dorian Kithcart and Jack Raines honored
MACON, Ga. – Mercer Football's Tucker Cannon, Dorian Kithcart and Jack Raines were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District IV Football Team, the organization announced Thursday.
Â
Mercer's three student-athletes on the list tied with Georgia for the second most selections in the district – which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and South Carolina. Coastal Carolina led the pack with six selections this year.
Â
Cannon has led the Bears' receiving corps in 2019, catching 31 passes for 518 yards and three touchdowns. He took a catch 85 yards to the house in the season opener at Western Carolina, and then followed it up by setting the school's single-game receiving record with 144 yards in the week two win over Presbyterian. A redshirt junior from Dunwoody, Cannon has posted a 3.78 GPA while pursuing a degree in chemical commerce. Â
Â
A now two-time recipient of Academic All-District honors, Kithcart adds yet another award to his trophy case – joining his AFCA Good Works Team Nomination and William V. Campbell Trophy Semifinalist honors. The Durham, N.C., native has tallied 30 tackles this year – all while posting a 3.63 GPA in his mechanical engineering master's classes.
Â
Redshirt senior Jack Raines has been a leader on and off the field for the Bears this year. A native of Tifton, Raines has started every game for the Bears at either defensive end or outside linebacker and has racked up 50 tackles in the 10 games. He has posted a perfect, 4.0 GPA every semester at Mercer and graduated with his degree in finance last spring.
Â
The 2019 Academic All-District® Football and Volleyball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football and volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
