Bears close out home slate at Five Star Stadium

The 23rd-ranked Terriers (6-3, 5-1 SoCon) amassed 558 total yards of offense on the afternoon – with 394 coming on the ground – to run away from the Bears (3-6, 3-4 SoCon) in the Southern Conference contest.

Offensive Star
Junior running back Tyray Devezin was the bright spot for the Bears offense Saturday, carrying the ball 24 times for 104 yards on the ground. The game marked his third 100-plus yard rushing game this season.

Eric Jackson capped off his final game at Five Star Stadium by leading all players with 12 tackles in the contest. Jackson now has 262 for his career, which ranks in the top 15 nationally among all active FCS players.

Joining Jackson in the double-digit tackle category was Malique Fleming, who recorded 10 tackles – four solo and six assisted – while also breaking up a pass in the game. Also piling up the tackles were Michael Freeman and Luke Ward who finished with eight and seven, respectively.

Yards were at a premium Saturday for the Mercer offense, as Kaelan Riley was 7-for-17 for 55 yards passing. Tucker Cannon and Yahsyn McKee had two receptions apiece to lead the receiving corps, while David Durden's 22 receiving yards led the team. The Bears' lone score came on a touchdown reception by senior Chase Westfall in his final home game.

- Before the game, Mercer honored 17 seniors who played in their final game at Five Star Stadium Saturday - Will Coneway, Logan Craighead, Chris Ellington, Cam Fannon, Jake Flath, Brian Forrestal, Camiel Grant, Destin Guillen, Eric Jackson, Dorian Kithcart, Mason Lawing, Ty McLemore, Trey Peppers, Andrew Pettit, Jack Raines, Austin Sanders and Chase Westfall.
- Senior safety Eric Jackson finished his playing career at home by leading the Mercer defense with XX tackles.
- Tyray Devezin once again eclipsed 100 yards rushing in the game – his third 100-plus rushing yard game this season.
- The Wofford defense held Mercer to just 144 total yards in the game – the Bears lowest offensive output in a Southern Conference game since joining the league in 2014.
Up Next
The Bears will hit the road for their final two games of the 2019 season starting next weekend in Johnson City, Tenn. for a matchup with ETSU. Mercer then wraps up the season in Chapel Hill against North Carolina the following Saturday.
