Bears in Second at SoCon Women’s Golf Championship

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Mercer women's golf team is in second place at the 2019 Southern Conference Championship after shooting a first-round, 10-over-par 298 on Sunday at Moss Creek Golf Club's South Course.

The Bears trail No. 26 Furman (+8) by two strokes after 18 holes played. All five Bears are inside the top-25 individually, including three who are among the top 10.

Mercer on Team Leaderboard
Mercer's 10-over-par first round was good for the second best among the SoCon's nine teams on Sunday. The Bears trail only No. 26 Furman and sit three strokes ahead of third-place Chattanooga and five strokes ahead of fourth-place ETSU.

Mercer on Individual Scoreboard
All five Bears rank inside the top-25 individually through the first round on Hilton Head Island. Mary Janiga (E), Lauren Lightfritz (+1) and Karina Kukkonen (+9) are fourth, tied for fifth, and tied for ninth, respectively. Janiga and Kukkonen, both seniors, tallied a team-best three birdies.
