Mercer Women Take Fourth at SoCon Championship

Karina Kukkonen earns fifth-place finish individually

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Mercer women's golf team placed fourth at the 2019 Southern Conference Championship after shooting a third-round 308 on Tuesday at Moss Creek Golf Club.

The Bears (+47) shot 298-305-308 for the tournament and finished behind champion Furman (+27), ETSU (+41) and Chattanooga (+41). All five Bears finished inside the top 26 individually, including senior Karina Kukkonen, who placed fifth.

Mercer on Team Leaderboard
Mercer was one of four teams clearly ahead of the pack at the SoCon Championship; the Bears finished 16 strokes ahead of fifth-place UNCG. The Bears dropped one spot on the team leaderboard on Tuesday for the fourth-place finish.

Mercer on Individual Scoreboard
Senior Karina Kukkonen shot a third-round 74 to lead the Bears and earn a fifth-place finish individually. Kukkonen shot three birdies over the final round. Lauren Lightfritz took 14th overall after earning a 54-hole 13-over-par. All five Bears finished inside the top 26 individually.
