Mercer shoots second-round 299 on Monday
PINEHURST, N.C. – The Mercer men's golf team dropped back two spots into a tie for fourth place at the 2019 Southern Conference Championship after shooting a second-round 299 (+11) on Monday at Pinehurst No. 9.

Coach Kayden's Take
"We ran into a day that everyone struggled in, especially at the start of our round," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "We didn't have those one or two scores that have usually led us this season and that led to a bad overall round.

"Our guys are determined and we'll need a bounce-back effort on Tuesday to finish strong here in Pinehurst. We can still have a great round; sometimes when you are in the pack, there is a little less pressure and you can just go play golf. I expect our guys to finish strong Tuesday."

The Bears moved back into a tie for fourth place with Furman at 12-over-par for the tournament. Through 36 holes, Mercer has shot 289-299 (588) and trails UNCG (+1), ETSU (+5) and Chattanooga (+7).

Both Tyler Copp and Martin Plukka jumped two spots into a tie for 10th place individually as they shot team-leading 74's on Monday. Both sit at three-over-par entering the final round. Senior Stanton Schorr is in a tie for 17th after carding a second-round 76.

The Bears will be paired with Wofford on the final day of competition in Pinehurst. All five Bears will tee off from hole No. 10 from 8:15-8:51 a.m. (ET). Live scoring of Tuesday's second round can be followed at Golfstat.com.
