Mercer owns a one-stroke lead after 36 holes of play in Macon
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's golf team shot 284-293 (577) and owns a one-stroke lead over the field after rainy 36 holes at The Brickyard Collegiate on Monday at Brickyard Golf Club.

Mercer (+1) was led by freshman Carol Pyon, who will enter Tuesday's final round as the clubhouse leader after shooting 68-70 (138) on the first day of play. The Bears shot a first-round 284, marking their lowest single-round score since joining the Southern Conference for the 2014-15 season. All five players included in Mercer's team score shot 73 or lower, including two who shot under par.

Mercer sat atop the leaderboard for the majority of the first 36 holes after its impressive first-round 284. The Bears lead Charlotte (+2) by one stroke with 18 holes remaining. Southern Conference foe ETSU (+6) is not far behind.

Mercer's torrid first round was highlighted by three scores of 72 or better, including a collegiate-low of 68 by freshman Carol Pyon. The Macon native dominated on her home course, leading the field nearly wire-to-wire over the first 36 holes. Pyon's first round included six birdies. Four Bears rank inside the top-20 individually after the first day.
