MACON, Ga. – After four weeks of play, many players around the country were off to quality starts and D1 Baseball recognized the senior pitchers who came out of the gates spotting it up and getting 'em out. Mercer senior Tanner Hall cracked the top 50 and came in at 10th overall.
Â
"What can't you say about Tanner Hall?" remarked head coach Craig Gibson. "He is a great Friday night competitor, and he gives the team a chance to win every time he is on the mound. Last year, he was a key piece on the mound that helped lead the Bears to the 2019 SoCon Tournament Championship. This is a well deserved honor for Tanner. We are excited about the possibility of him being with us next year."
Â
To identify those with the best performances, D1 Baseball broke down pitching into three categories: Zone Control, Pitch Ability, and Durability. Zone Control is how well the pitcher controls the strike zone with strikeouts, walks, wild pitches and hit by pitch. Pitch Ability refers to the pitcher's ability to pitch and uses statistics like WHIP, FIP and OppSLG. Durability is largely based on innings pitched and batters faced.
Â
Over his four starts this season, Hall had a 3-1 record. The three wins were tied for the most wins on the team. He pitched 24.2 innings and limited opponents to 17 hits. Opponents scored nine runs (seven earned) off Hall on the season. He led the team with 37 punch outs while only issuing four walks. The 37 strikeouts this season ranked 26th best in the Nation. He found himself ranked 23rd in the nation in wins.
Â
The senior from Warner Robins, picked up his third win of the season against UT Martin on Feb. 28. In the contest against the Skyhawks, Hall recorded 11 strikeouts, setting a new career high. The 11 K's came in six innings of work.
Â
Hall's overall D1 Baseball score was 88.8. He scored 85.6 in zone control, 91.6 in pitch ability and 83.1 in durability. He was one of three SoCon seniors featured on the list. Landon Knack (ETSU) came in ranked No. 2 and Jake Hershman (WOF) came in ranked No. 17.
