Mercer picked sixth in both coaches and media poll
MACON, Ga. – The Southern Conference announced its 2020-21 preseason football honors along with the coaches' and media poll on Wednesday afternoon prior to holding its virtual media day on Thursday.

Mercer was picked to finish in a tie for sixth in the coaches' poll and sixth in the media poll, respectfully. The Bears enter the SoCon slate after playing three games this fall.

Wofford was picked to win the league in the coaches' poll as they received five first place votes and 60 points. Furman, who was voted second in the poll, tallied three first place-votes and 56 points. The final first place vote went Chattanooga who was selected to finish third with 53 points.

The Citadel came in fourth claiming 39 points, while Samford finished five points behind the Bulldogs with 34 points for the fifth spot. Mercer tallied 26 votes to tie with VMI for sixth. ETSU and Western Carolina rounded out the pull with 20 and 10 points, respectfully.

The Bears open the SoCon schedule on Feb. 20 when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to face preseason favorite Wofford.
