Mercer Announces 2021 Baseball Schedule

Bears to play 30 home games at OrthoGeorgia Park
MACON, Ga. – Mercer head baseball coach Craig Gibson announced the 2021 schedule Tuesday. The 56-game schedule features 30 contests at OrthoGeorgia Park.
Mercer is coming off a 13-3 season that was canceled in mid-March because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Mercer plays six games against 2019 NCAA Regional opponents.

The Bears play six of its first seven games of the season at OrthoGeorgia Park with the opening weekend set for Feb. 19-21 against North Alabama. Prior to hosting Southern Illinois on Feb. 26-28, the Orange and Black travel to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech (Feb. 24) in a midweek contest.
After the Southern Illinois series, the Bears will be on the road for four straight starting in Tallahassee, Fla. against Florida State on March 2. On March 5-7, the Bears will make the trek to Columbia, S.C. to face the University of South Carolina. The Bears' game the Gamecocks will be the first meeting between the two programs since 1989.
Before opening the Southern Conference slate on March 19, the Bears have three games against Florida A&M (March 10, March 16-17) and a weekend series with Xavier (March 12-14). Mercer opens its conference slate with Western Carolina in a three-game set on March 19.
On March 30, the Bears return to Gainesville, Fla. for the first time since the 2018 season for a non-conference matchup with preseason No. 1 Florida. In the last meeting against Florida in 2018, the Bears came away with a 6-4 victory over the then-No. 1 Gators. Mercer has won the last three meetings between these two schools, twice when Florida was ranked No. 1 (2006 & 2018) and in 2014, 4-2, when the Gators were No. 8.
Mercer faces in-state foes nine times this season with games against Georgia Tech, Georgia State, Georgia Southern and Kennesaw State. The Bears face Georgia Tech (Feb. 24), Georgia State (March 23, Apr. 6, Apr. 21, May 11), Georgia Southern (Apr. 14, May 18) and Kennesaw State (Apr. 28, May 5).
The Southern Conference will be divided into two divisions this season. The Red Division includes The Citadel, Mercer, Western Carolina and Wofford, while the Blue Division is composed of ESTU, UNCG, Samford and VMI. Each squad will play a pair of three-game series against all teams in the division and a single series against the teams from the other division. For the SoCon series, schools' will host three games over two days.
Mercer closes out the 2021 slate on Mary 20-21 when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to play Wofford.
The 2021 Southern Conference Baseball Championship will once again be held at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. – the home of the Boston Red Sox Single-A affiliate, Greenville Drive.
