2021 First Pitch Classic Canceled

MACON, Ga. – Mercer head baseball coach Craig Gibson announced Monday that the 2021 First Pitch Classic has been canceled because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

"This was a tough decision to make, but it was the right choice," remarked Gibson. "With following social distancing mandates and keeping everyone safe, this was the best decision for the safety of our players, staff and fans."

The First Pitch Classic will resume prior to the start of the 2022 season. Many high-profile guests have headlined the First Pitch Classic including, Ozzie Smith, Gordon Beckham, Jose Canseco, Roger Clemens, Jeff Francoeur, Chipper Jones, Dale Murphy, Pete Rose, John Smoltz, Darryl Strawberry, Mark Teixeira and Charlie Culberson.

The 2021 season is set to start on Friday, Feb. 19. The 2021 schedule will be announced at a later date.
