Seven men and two women run for Mercer
Huntsville, Ala. – Members of the Mercer cross country team ran in the NCAA South Regional competition hosted by North Alabama.
Laney Doster and Giulia Giorgi finished 133 and 193, respectively. Doster completed her freshman year campaign competing in the 6,000 meter distance for the first time, finishing in a freshman record time of 22:49.
The Men's performance was highlighted by Vladimir Zander-Velloso. Velloso finished the 10,000 meter race in 31:50, becoming the second best All-time finish for Mercer over the distance. The seven men finished 20th out of 25 teams.
"The team benefited from the experience gained and left us excited to move up in the region in these coming seasons. The future is very bright for this young group," said head coach Josh Hayman.Â

WOMEN'S RACE (6K)Â
Laney Doster led the Bears with a 133rd place finish and a time of 22:49.58. Giulia followed, finishing 193rd, 24:33.04.

MEN'S RACE (10K)Â
The mercer men placed 20th overall with 578 points. Vladi Zander-Velloso (75) and Connor Kaufman (98) both finished in the top 100.

UP NEXT
This race concludes the Fall season, ending positively. The men's finish in conference was the highest finish ever for Mercer. The men finished in third place. Another best of the season was at the USC Upstate Invitational where the Bears finished second. The women's best finish was also at the Upstate Invitational, placing 8th out of 17.Â
