Mercer’s sophomore catcher has been named to the National Catcher of the Year Watch List
WICHITA, Kan. – Mercer sophomore catcher Collin Price is one of 69 catchers from across the nation nominated for the 2021 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced.
Â
"This is a well-deserved honor for Collin," stated head coach Craig Gibson. "He has been a key part of our program. He has improved greatly as a defender since we got him to campus. He has everything you are looking for in a catcher. If anyone deserves to be on the Buster Posey Watch List, Collin Price fits that bill."

Â
He is one of three catchers from the Southern Conference to make the list. Price joins Kyle Richardson of ETSU and Luke Robinson of Western Carolina on the list. During the 2019 season, Price earned SoCon All-Tournament Team honors.
Â
Over the start of the 2021 season, teams haven't ran on Price much as he has thrown out two-of-five runners. He has a fielding percentage of 1.000 on the season.
Â
The watch list will be narrowed down to the semifinalists, whom will be announced May 20, 2021. Ballots will be sent to the national voting committee at the end of May for a vote to determine the three finalists. The finalists will be announced June 7, 2021. A final vote among the national committee will occur during the College World Series. All finalists will be brought to Wichita and the winner will be announced at a date that is yet to be determined.
Â
Because the Buster Posey Award strives to honor the top collegiate catcher in a season, a 2020 recipient was not named due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of the collegiate baseball season.
