Copp Named to All-SoCon Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior Tyler Copp of the Mercer men's golf team earned his first postseason award as was named to the All-Southern Conference team, the league announced on Tuesday.

Copp was consistently one of the top players in the conference throughout his senior campaign and finished with the seventh-best scoring average in the SoCon at 72.65, a career best. The Ann Arbor, Mich., native posted four top-5 finishes this season, including his first victory at a collegiate tournament. Copp won the Invitational at Savannah Harbor on Feb. 21 after carding a seven-under par (70-68-71) to beat the field by three strokes. He added a third-place finish at the Southern Invitational on March 1-2 after shooting a career-low 67 in the final round. He also finished fourth at the JT Poston Invitational and placed fifth at the SoCon Championship. Copp shot par or better in 14 of his 26 rounds in the 2020-21 season, including four rounds in the 60s.

"I'm proud of Tyler's efforts in his career at Mercer," said head coach Kirk Kayden. "He had a very solid spring season, including a win at Savannah Harbor. To top it off by making the all-conference team is pretty special. The future is bright for Tyler, and I'm looking forward to following his career."
