
Peevy and Dowden Take Home Weekly Awards

Mercer has won three Southern Conference weekly awards.
MACON, Ga. – Carter Peevy was named the Stats Perform FCS National Freshman of the Week and Caleb Dowden was named Southern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week presented by GEICO.

Peevy, a true freshman, passed for a school-record 406 yards as well as two fourth quarter touchdown passes as Mercer topped Furman 26-14 Â for the Bears' second straight upset of a nationally ranked Southern Conference opponent. He completed 21 of 36 passes, averaging 19.3 yards per completion. He also rushed for 12 yards, capping Mercer's opening drive with a 1-yard touchdown.
Mercer's Dowden accounted for eight points in the Bears' 26-14 win over No. 17/21 Furman on Saturday, connecting on field goals of 23 and 31 yards and two extra points. Both field goals came in the third quarter and initiated a 19-0 game-ending run for the Bears. Dowden, a redshirt sophomore from Statesboro, Ga., also punted three times for 115 yards, downing one inside Furman's 20-yard line.
