Lauren Lightfritz earned co-champion honors
MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's golf team earned a second-place finish at the Brickyard Collegiate, fueled by Lauren Lightfritz who earned a share of her first career title on Tuesday from the Brickyard Golf Club.
Â
The Bears took home runner-up honors as a team despite playing shorthanded and having only four players competing in the tournament.
Â
Lightfritz documented her first career collegiate victory in her final regular season tournament by finishing the tournament with an even-par 216 (72-71-73) as one of the most consistent players in the field. It was the second top-3 finish of the season for Lightfritz as she took home runner-up honors at the Mercer Invitational, also held at the Brickyard Golf Club, on Nov. 9-10.
Â
Additionally, Laila Hrindova earned a top-10 finish for the first time this season and the second time since joining Mercer ahead of the 2019-20 season. The Poprad, Slovakia native's other top-10 finish in the Orange and Black came at the 2019 Idle Hour Championship on Nov. 4-5 when she posted a third-place finish.
Â
"I am incredible proud of Lauren, Payton, Laila and Laura and how they took on the challenge this week," said head coach Michele Drinkard. "We played for our three teammates who couldn't compete, and our Motto was 'We are 4 strong and competing for 7', and that's what we did!"
