Schanen Sits 11th After First Round at NCAA Regionals

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The Mercer women's golf team was led by graduate student Payton Schanen in its first round of the NCAA Louisville Regional as she sits tied for 11th after 18 holes at the University of Louisville Golf Club on Monday.

Schanen carded a team-low even-par 72 in the first round after birdying her first hole and needing an extra stroke on the seventh. It was smooth sailing the rest of the way for the Alpharetta, Ga., native as she parred the remaining 16 holes and shot a 36 on both the front nine and back nine.

As a team, the Bears are tied for 12th place after the first 18 holes and are only six strokes out of sixth place.
