
Baseball Drops The Series to Wofford

Mercer dropped the final two games of the regular season on Friday

Game 1
Mercer looked to get the bats going early in the game as Bill Knight and RJ Yeager, the first two hitters of the game reached base, but they were left stranded on base.

After a three-up three-down inning for the Terriers in the first, the home team scrapped one run across the board in the second inning. Shane Lussier drove in the first run of the game for the Terriers. Wofford extended the lead in the bottom of the third inning when it scored three runs on two hits, taking a 4-0 lead.

Wofford continued to extend the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Terriers scored four runs on four hits. During the inning, John Dempsey hit a two-run homer, extending the advantage to 8-0.

Colby Thomas put the Bears on the board in the top of the fifth inning. Leading off the inning, Thomas had a 0-1 count. The next pitch he sent over the left-center field fence for a home run. This was the 19th straight contest the Bears have hit a homer run in.

The Terriers grew the lead to 9-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning. With runners on second and third, Lussier hit a sac fly to left field that scored one.

Mercer trimmed the lead down to 9-3 in the top of the seventh inning. With runners on first and second, Thomas doubled down the left field line and scored one. Bassett came into score when Bill Knight hit a sac fly to right field.

The Terriers scored one more in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Mercer only picked up one hit for the final two innings of the contest and dropped game one, 10-3.

Game 2
Mercer looked to get the bats going early in game two. With two outs, Brandon Michie singled, and Garett Delano followed with a single putting runners on the corners. They were left on base, and Mercer was held scoreless.

After allowing a single with one out in the first, Jackson Kelley settled in. Collin Price threw out Collin Davis trying to steal, and Lawson Hill struck out looking to end the inning. In the second, Kelley sat the Terriers down in order. First flew out to right field, and then Kelley got two strike out swinging's to end the inning.

Wofford took the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Dorighi and Lussier recorded back-to-back triples to open the inning. Matty Brown followed with a two-run triple down the right field line. Following a K, Collin Davis drew a walk, putting runners on the corners. The third run of the inning came in on a Hill double to left center. After a pitching change, Taylor Lobus came in and tallied back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.

Wofford's lead grew to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth for the Terriers. After the first two batters were retired, Wofford strung together three straight hits. The third hit, recorded by Yunger, led to two runs. Wofford added its sixth run in the bottom of the sixth inning as it had the bases loaded, and Mercer threw a wild pitch.

Mercer tried to get things going late in the game and in the top of the seventh inning, DiSpigna doubled to left center to lead-off the inning, but Mercer couldn't get anything else going in the frame. The Bears didn't get anything going in the eighth and came up for its final at-bats in the ninth.

Delano led off with a single, and after the first out of the inning, DiSpigna drew a walk putting two on. However, that would all Mercer could get going, and the Bears dropped the game, 6-0.
