Garett Delano earned third team honors as a utility player
MACON, Ga. – Mercer's Garett Delano was selected as a D1 Baseball Third Team All-American, the organization announced on Monday.

Â
"Garett had an outstanding season for us on the mound and at the plate," remarked Head Coach Craig Gibson. "There is nobody more deserving of this. Garett was a huge piece of our success this year on the diamond."
Â
Delano, a graduate student from Callahan, Fla., was an infielder and right-handed pitcher for the Bears. He led the team with a .337 batting average and 52 RBI. Delano showed off his power with nine home runs and 13 doubles. On the mound, he made 15 appearances - 12 starts and 3 in relief. He posted a 6-1 record and 4.32 ERA. Delano tallied 60 strikeouts to only 20 walks and held opponents to a .231 average through a team-high 81.1 innings.
Â
"I want to thank D1 Baseball for the All-American selection," stated Delano. "It is super humbling to be mentioned along the NCAA's top players, and I am glad I was able to represent all the two-way players across the country. I cannot thank my coaches/teammates at Mercer enough for the opportunity to be a part of this program."
Â
Following his first start as a Bear against Marshall, he was named the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Week. Delano tossed seven innings of two-hit baseball against the Thundering Herd while fanning a career-high 11 batters. In the same game, he went two-for-four at the plate.
Â
Against The Citadel on May 14, Delano tossed a career-high 8.2 innings and fanned four batters while limiting the Bulldogs to only three hits in the game.
Â
Delano was one of two Bears to earn First Team All-SoCon honors. He earned first team honors at second base and second team honors as a starting pitcher. He was the only player in the Southern Conference to take home two honors for two positions.
