Isaac Dowling Named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week

MACON, Ga. – Mercer linebacker Isaac Dowling was named Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Dowling had his first two career interceptions in Mercer's 49-6 win over Western Carolina. Both of Dowling's interceptions came in the second quarter to stop Catamount drives near midfield.

The sophomore from Snellville, Ga. had a team-high seven tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss in the win. Dowling's 46 tackles and six tackles for loss this season are each fourth-most in the SoCon.

Dowling was part of a Mercer defense that held Western Carolina's high-powered offense to just two field-goals and a season-low 249 yards of total offense.
