Mercer Ranked 11th in latest AFCA FCS Coaches Poll

MACON, Ga. – Following its 49-6 win over Western Carolina, Mercer received a No. 11 ranking in the AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25 poll. The Bears were previously ranked No. 12 going into the Western Carolina game.

The Bears are one of three teams from the SoCon ranked in the poll. Chattanooga is ranked No. 9 and Samford is ranked No. 15.

Mercer is coming off a dominant 49-6 win over Western Carolina. The Bears' defense was stout once again, holding the top scoring offense in the SoCon to just six points and did not allow a single touchdown to the Catamounts.

The defense also had four interceptions in the game, led by Isaac Dowling who had his first two interceptions of his career. Mercer's 12 interceptions on the season leads the FCS.

Fred Payton was 16-for-22 passing for 247 yards and threw for three touchdowns. Payton is one of three FCS quarterbacks with zero interceptions this season. Payton is fourth in the FCS in passing efficiency with a 185.15 rating.

Devron Harper had six receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns, one receiving and one rushing. Harper leads the SoCon and is third in the FCS in total touchdowns with 12. He also is tied for the most receiving touchdowns in the FCS with eight.

Through six games, Mercer has the top scoring offense (38.7 ppg) and defense (13.7 ppg) in the SoCon.

Mercer Athletics is excited to announce that all tickets against defending the Southern Conference Champions, ETSU on Saturday, Oct. 15 will be $4.78 as part of the 478 Day promotion. Mercer welcomes defending SoCon champion ETSU to Five Star Stadium this Saturday, Oct. 15. ETSU comes into the game with a 3-3 record and a 1-3 record in conference play. Last week, the Bucs defeated VMI 44-21 to pick up their first conference win of the season.
