Bears Repeat As Team Champs
Macon, Ga—Mercer golfer Mikayla Dubnik had a perfect way to celebrate her Nov. 1 birthday. The sophomore gave herself and her teammates a present by winning the Mercer Invitational at The Brickyard Golf Club in Macon, and in so doing, helped the Bears repeat as team champions.
All five Bears finished in the top 20. Dubnik fired rounds of 70-71-73-214 on the par-72 course to finish the tournament 2-under par. She was the only golfer in the 91-player field who finished below par. Pearl Poncharatkun of Seminole State was runner-up, finishing three shots behind Dubnik, one over par for the tournament.
Mercer's depth showed throughout the tournament. Kate Song tied for fourth at two over par. Carol Pyon, was another two shots behind, and tied for seventh. Camilla Järvelä tied for ninth at five over par. The Bears' Tracy Rodriguez finished tied for 20th, with a tournament score of 224, +8.
Junior Hailey Katona played in the tournament as an individual and her score of 238 (+22) did not figure into the Bears' team total. This was the final tournament for the Bears' women's golf team in the fall season. Mercer will resume tournament play in February.
