MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program and head coach Craig Gibson announced the 2023 schedule, highlighted by the Bears' stellar non-conference slate. Of the 55 games, Mercer will play 33 in front of the home crowd at OrthoGeorgia Park and 13 total against 2022 NCAA Regionals competitors.
"I am really excited about our upcoming 2023 schedule," Gibson shared. "We have a great home schedule as well as very challenging road trips. In terms of difficulty, this may be one of the most challenging schedules we have played with over 20% of our opponents participating in NCAA postseason play last year."
Season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased here or by calling Davis Durden, Director of Ticket Sales, at 478-301-5217. Orange chairback seats are available for $100 per seat, and bleacher style seats are available for $75 per seat.
The Bears open the season at home with a weekend series against William & Mary (February 17-19) in the first-ever meeting with the Tribe. Mercer then travels to Tallahassee for a midweek pair against Florida A&M (February 21-22) for the fourth consecutive year.
Mercer then begins a seven-game stretch in the state of Georgia with back-to-back home series against Rhode Island (February 24-26) and Bellarmine (March 3-5) with a midweek tie in Statesboro against Georgia Southern (February 28) as part of a home-and-home pair with the Eagles.
Headlining the season for the Bears is a trip to the Lone Star State for a midweek game against Texas (March 8) and a three-game series against Baylor (March 10-12).
Among the remaining non-conference series are Rutgers (March 17-19) and CSUN (April 6-8) at home and Florida State (May 5-7) on the road.
Additional in-state opponents include Georgia State, Kennesaw State, and Georgia Tech in home-and-home pairs.
Southern Conference play begins for the Bears March 24-26 against The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. Mercer will also travel to play conference foes VMI (April 21-23) and Wofford (May 12-14) while welcoming Western Carolina (March 31-April 2), ETSU (April 14-16), UNCG (April 28-30), and Samford (May 18-20).
The Southern Conference Tournament will take place in Greenville, South Carolina from May 24-28.
"Our goal is to play the most challenging non-conference schedule to get our team in the best possible position to win a Southern Conference championship," Gibson added.
Gibson is in his 20th season with the Bears and holds a 631-425 all-time record with Mercer.
