Bears are back at OrthoGeorgia Park on March 1st at 6 pm

MACON, Ga. – Mercer's pitching staff struck out ten batters and only allowed six hits, but a trio of homeruns helped SIUE to overcome the Bears 5-3 in a series-ending loss on Sunday at OrthoGerogia Park.

The Bears (7-1) suffered their first loss of the year despite taking the series against the Cougars (2-4). Mercer's starting pitcher Tanner Hall took the loss on the mound while going 4.2 innings.

The Cougars jumped to a 2-0 lead early in the 1^st inning when SIUE's three-hole hitter hit a two-run home run following a single to left center field by the Cougars centerfielder Brett Johnson.

Mercer would go on to get two runners on but would leave them stranded on first and second in the bottom of the second.

In the top of the 4^th, Brady Bunten drew a walk to get SIUE on the base paths. Two batters late4, the Cougar's first baseman hit a home run to dead center to extend the Cougar's led to 4-0.

Mercer would get three runs back in the bottom of the 4^th. Mercer's Collin Price started the inning off with a solo home run to center field to cut the lead to 4-1. Mercer loaded the bases with a walk by Le Bassett, a single by Trevor Austin and a single by William Mapes. Jozsef Rohrbacher reached on a fielder's choice to score Le Bassett. With two out, Colby Thomas singled through the 4-3-hole scoring Trevor Austin, but Jozsef Rohrbacker would get thrown out at home by the right fielder to end the inning. At the end of the 4^th, SIUE would lead Mercer 4-3.

The next inning with two outs, Tanner Hall gave up his third home run of the game to Josh Ohl to give the Cougar's a 3-run lead.

Taylor Bruninga came in relief for SIUE and did not give up a hit and would only walk one in four innings to pick up the save.
