Mercer blanks UNC Asheville in series finale, 10-0
MACON, Ga. – Mercer held UNC Asheville to four hits while pounding out 13 of its own in a 10-0 victory Sunday at OrthoGeorgia Park.

Josh Farmer struck out seven and allowed only one hit and a walk in 5 innings of work to lead the Bears (11-1) to a series sweep of the Bulldogs (3-9).

Meanwhile, five Mercer batters had multiple hits on the day.

Collin Price led the way with a 3 for 4 performance. The Suwanee native also drove in three runs and scored once.

Treyson Hughes, Bill Knight, Trevor Rider and Colby Thomas all finished up with a pair of hits apiece. Knight had a solo homer in the fifth and drove in three. Thomas scored two runs and had a double on the first pitch he saw in the game.

Thomas scored the first run of the game after his leadoff double. Price sent him plateward on a single through the middle of the infield. Hughes also had an RBI single in the first inning.

A frame later, Knight's single allowed Angelo DiSpigna to trot home and push the advantage to 3-0.

Mercer struck for seven runs in the fifth inning after sending 13 hitters to the plate.

Knight started it off with a solo homer. He added another RBI later in the inning after drawing a walk with the bases loaded.

Asheville used three pitchers in the panel and walked five batters. The Bears pushed across a total of three runs in the stanza on free passes with the bases loaded. Trevor Rider also scored on a wild pitch.

The scoring in the inning was capped off by Price's two-run single.

Colton Cosper, Zach Turner, Walt Thomas and Jackson Kelley all logged a scoreless inning of relief to close out the contest.

Mercer will continue its home stand Wednesday against No. 18 Georgia Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
