DiSpigna Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer infielder Angelo DiSpigna has been named the Southern Conference player for all games from April 11-17. The selection is DiSpigna's first.
DiSpigna went 9-for-17 in his four appearances for Mercer last week, batting .529 and scoring six total runs with three home runs and nine RBIs in the Bears' midweek game against Florida A&M and Mercer's conference series against UNCG. He started the week going 2-for-4 with one RBI in the Bears' 4-3 victory over the Rattlers on Tuesday before going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and one home run in the Bears' 12-8 series-opening win over the Spartans on Thursday. The junior infielder went 0-for-4 on Friday, adding one run and one walk in Mercer's 5-2 victory over UNCG. In Mercer's 20-10 win over the Spartans on Saturday, DiSpigna went 3-for-5 with three runs, six RBIs and two home runs, helping the Bears earn the series sweep over the Spartans to collect Mercer's 12th consecutive victory. The Lawrenceville, Georgia, native concluded the week with a .550 on-base percentage and a 1.059 slugging percentage, while also recording 32 putouts in the field.
Mercer (31-5, 6-0 SoCon) travels to Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday, April 19, for a midweek game against Georgia Tech at 6 p.m. ET before returning home to Macon, Georgia, for their weekend conference series against Wofford, with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. ET on Friday, April 22.
Wofford (27-9, 6-0 SoCon) travels to Mercer on April 22-24.
