Mercer falls to Wofford on Friday night

The Terriers (29-9, 7-0 SoCon) scored four runs in the opening frame to set the tone for the game. Wofford added another in the second on a safety squeeze by Lawson Hill.

The Bears (31-7, 6-1 SoCon) fell behind 6-0 after Wofford scored on an infield single by Ryan Galanie in the fourth inning.

Mercer cut the lead in half in the bottom of the panel as Treyson Hughes hit a towering three-run homer over the wall in right field.

However, the Terriers scored 10 runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to pull away.

The Bears picked up its final runs of the night in the bottom of the ninth. Wes Franklin hit a two-run homer. Mercer then loaded the bases before Jozsef Rohrbacher hit a sacrifice fly and David Burke followed with an RBI groundout.

Matthew Marchal (4-2) struck out nine in his six-inning start to earn the win.
Â
Josh Harlow (5-2) suffered the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings.
Â
The two teams will continue the series Saturday at 2 p.m.
