Junior righty tallied win and save in last week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Following 6.0 shutout innings and five punchouts over three appearances, Jackson Kelly was tabbed as the Southern Conference's Pitcher of the Week.
The junior righty from Marietta, Ga. picked up the win in Friday's extra-inning affair when he allowed just one hit and one walk while fanning a trio over 3.0 frames in Johnson City.
He picked up the two-inning save in the rubber match with the Bucs, helping seal the series win in a 6-3 win. In the pair of frames, he struck out one and forced four groundouts. The lone hit he allowed all week came in the series-clinching win.
In the midweek road win over Jacksonville State, he shut the door on any comeback attempt in the Gamecocks' ninth when he retired the offense in order and struck out one on just 12 pitches.
Mercer will continue with the season this Friday, May 6, when they start a road series with Western Carolina.
