
Bears Take Regular Season Finale from Samford

Mercer downs Bulldogs, 12-2
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mercer erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning to claim the final game of the Southern Conference series with Samford, 12-2, in eight innings Saturday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

The Bears (39-16, 12-9 SoCon) snapped a three-game skid with the run-rule win to wrap up the regular season.

Mercer racked up 11 hits on the day.
Â
Angelo DiSpigna, Collin Price and Jozsef Rohrbacher paced the Bears with two hits apiece. DiSpigna and Rohrbacher both finished with three RBIs.
Â
Four Mercer pitchers combined to limit the Bulldogs (26-27, 12-9 SoCon) to only six hits and two runs in the finale.

Josh Harlow (7-2) earned the victory after 5.1 strong frames of work. He scattered five hits and two runs while striking out three.

Wes Franklin, Jaxon O'Neal and Luke Sutko each registered scoreless relief appearances.

The Bears started the scoring in the third inning when Bill Knight belted a two-run homer.

Mercer doubled its advantage to 4-0 a panel later with run-scoring hits by DiSpigna and Rohrbacher.

Samford was able to pick up single tallies in both the fourth and fifth innings to trim the lead to two.

The seven-run seventh for the Bears started with Rohrbacher, Knight and Price all drawing walks to load the bases. Both Rohrbacher and Knight scored on a fielding error.

Mercer again loaded the bases before Will Mapes grounded out, but drove in Price for the third run of the stanza. DiSpigna singled through the middle of the infield, driving in a pair.

Later in the inning, Rohrbacher came back to the plate and tallied a two-run single to put the Bears in front 11-2.
