MACON, Ga. – After a strong debut season for the Bears in 2022, outfielder Treyson Hughes was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-America Team, the organization announced Monday.
"A well-deserved honor," said Head Coach Craig Gibson. "He continues to work daily to be the best that he can be. I am really excited to see his progression in the program as he continues to develop"
Hughes, a Warner Robins, Georgia, native who played at Houston County High School, slugged .317 from the plate in 55 starts as the Bears recorded a 40-win season and second seed in the 2022 Southern Conference Tournament. In a come-from-behind win at Georgia State last month, Hughes clubbed a pair of home runs and drove in five runs – both season highs - to help lead the Bears to a 11-5 midweek win.
Wasting no time to create an immediate impact, Hughes tallied 11 hits in his first eight contests and drove in three runs. In a 15-2 home win over FAMU, he launched his first home run, a solo shot to right in the fifth inning.
His 14 homers and 129 bases placed eighth in the conference.
