Green Wave Classic Wraps Up Tuesday
New Orleans, La.--Bogey free rounds by Carol Pyon and Camilla Järvelä sparked the Mercer women's golf team to an 8-under team total second round and has the Bears sitting in seventh place out of 14 teams at the Green Wave Classic hosted by Tulane University in New Orleans on Monday. Play concludes with the third round on Tuesday.Â
Pyon had her best collegiate round shooting a 5-under 67 in the second round. Järvelä also had a collegiate personal best with a 3-under 69 on the par-72 Bayou Oaks Course. Other Bears Mikayla Dubnik is at even par 144 through two rounds; Kate Song is at 150 is 6-over par; and Tracy Rodriguez is at 152, 8-over par. As a team Mercer is at an even 576 trhough two rounds.Â
Mercer coach Michele Drinkard said the steamy New Orleans humidity may have affected the opening round. "First round we got off to a slow start and really didn't capitalize where we needed to and missed some great opportunities," Drinkard said. "By the second round with the same hole locations, they did a great job making adjustments and went low."Â
Nebraska and Louisiana State are tied for the team lead after two rounds at 23-under par. Nebraska's Kelli Strand is the individual leader at 12-under. Â
