
Mercer Moves Up to No. 13 in AFCA FCS Coaches Poll

Bears move up three spots following dominant win
MACON, Ga. – Following its 45-14 win at Gardner-Webb, Mercer received a No. 13 ranking in the AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25 poll. The ranking is the highest in program history, surpassing its No. 16 ranking from last week.
The Bears are one of three teams from the SoCon ranked in the poll. Chattanooga is ranked No. 10 and Samford is ranked No. 19.
Mercer put together another strong performance at Gardner-Webb. The Bears outgained Gardner-Webb 170 to 47 in rushing yards in the game. It marked back-to-back games for the Bears' defense in which it held its opponent to under 100 rushing yards and 2.0 yards per carry or less.
The Mercer defense also intercepted three passes, including a 67-yard pick-six from Cam Sims in the second quarter.
Offensively, wide receiver Devron Harper scored three touchdowns and quarterback Fred Payton threw for 187 yards and three touchdowns.
