Mercer Has Strong Start At Red Sky
Vail, Colo. - A bogey free four-under par round of 68 by Mercer senior Tracy Rodriguez has her sitting in a tie for second place, just one shot off the lead after the first round of the Golfweek Red Sky classic in Vail, Colorado.
Not only is Rodriguez near the top of the individual leaderboard, the Bears are sitting in a fifth place tie out of the 20 teams competing. At one over par (289), the Bears sit four shots behind team leader Pepperdine (-3, 285) after Monday's play. The tournament continues at the Red Sky Golf Club Fazio Course on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Rodriquez birdied two par-threes, a par-four, and a par-five. Teammate Carol Pyon shot a 2-under 70. Pyon had eight birdies in her round, and briefly led the tournament's individual field. Pepperdine's Lauren Gomez leads the pack after her 5-under 67. Darcy Habgood of Washington State is tied for second with Rodriguez.
Other scores for the Bears in the tournament's opening day were Camilla Järvelä two-over, 74 (tie 45th); Kate Song five-over, 77 (tie 73rd); and Mikayla Dubnik 12-over 84 (97th).
On Tuesday, the Bears' tee times begin at 12:50 p.m. Eastern time. Rodriguez will be the final Bear to tee off at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time. Live results of the Red Sky Classic are available at https://bit.ly/3BNAXIz
