Fund will support mission to recruit and retain top-level coaches
MACON, Ga. – Mercer University's Board of Trustees Chair Tony Moye has made a lead gift to establish the Coaches Continuity Fund to support the Athletic Foundation's mission to recruit and retain top-level coaches.
Â
Established in 2008, the mission of the Mercer Athletic Foundation is to raise funds to help increase athletic scholarships, upgrade facilities, and recruit and retain top-level coaches. This fund will directly impact the third pillar of that mission, providing consistency in coaching staffs that will lead to stronger team culture, clearly defined systems of play and an overall increase in the likelihood for success.
Â
"With the ever-changing landscape of college athletics and the rise in expenses to fund championship-level programs, this investment will ensure Mercer Athletics remains nationally competitive," said Director of Athletics Jim Cole. "Keeping successful coaches long-term is my goal and this fund will allow us to do that."
Â
Moye's name has become synonymous with Mercer's success. As an athletics donor, he and his wife, Nancy, have named the outdoor athletic complex. As a pharmacy donor, a new 65,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art pharmacy building currently under construction on Mercer's Atlanta campus will be called the Moye Pharmacy and Health Sciences Center.Â
Â
"Tony Moye is one of the most generous people I know," said Brian Gerrity, executive director of the Mercer Athletic Foundation. "Between his work with Mercer's College of Pharmacy and naming our outdoor athletic complex, Tony truly is an all-time Mercerian. This fund is the latest in a long line of ideas that Tony has had to elevate not only Mercer Athletics but the University as a whole."
Â
Moye's ardent support of Mercer can be traced to his graduation from its College of Pharmacy.
Â
"I graduated from Mercer's College of Pharmacy in 1973 and started supporting the institution in 1974. Over the course of the past 50 years, I have witnessed Mercer University grow from a small liberal arts institution into a national research university," said Moye. "I have seen the impact that athletics has had on Macon's campus over the past 10 years and want to support the mission of developing tomorrow's leaders. The coaching staffs at Mercer are second to none, and retaining those coaches is important to me and Mercer."
Â
Expenditures from this fund will be at the discretion of the athletic director. To make a gift to the Coaches Continuity Fund, please contact Brian Gerrity at gerrity_bt@mercer.edu or (478) 301-4003.
