MACON – The Mercer men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Kernersville, N.C. to compete in the Southern Conference Championships on October 27. The women's 5k will be at 10 a.m. followed by the men's 8k at 10:45 a.m.
With two of the strongest teams in Mercer cross country history, the Bears head into championship season with a humble confidence to get the job done. At the most recent meet in Spartanburg, the women's team set a new Mercer record for 5k average time (18:15) with Kamila Soja taking second place overall to set a new personal and school record time of 17:00.09. All five scoring runners for the women's team plus one more ran personal bests in the 5k. On the men's side, Josh Kraver led the team while setting an 8k personal best. Three other Bears also ran their best time at the distance in this race. A majority of the Southern Conference teams competed at the meet, and both Mercer squads placed second among them.Â
Furman's men's and women's teams have won the last 10 Championships. In the 2022 Championship, the Mercer women's team placed sixth and the men's team placed third. Current graduate assistant Vladimir Zander-Velloso was the top finisher for the men, placing sixth overall in his senior season.Â
