Mercer to Host William & Mary for Opening Weekend

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program is set for Opening Day against William & Mary on Friday, February 17 at 6 p.m. at OrthoGeorgia Park at Claude Smith Field. The teams will play on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. to complete the series.

This is the first-ever meeting between the Bears and the Tribe. William & Mary finished 26-23 overall and 14-10 in the CAA last year in head coach Mike McRae's first season.

Mercer has won on Opening Day the past 12 seasons and won the Opening Weekend series in 11 of those 12 seasons. Head coach Craig Gibson is 16-3 on Opening Day with the Bears.

Preseason All-Southern Conference Second Team honoree Josh Harlow will start on the mound for Mercer on Friday. The sophomore went 7-2 last season and led the team with 84 strikeouts.

Ryan Lobus will throw for Mercer on Saturday after 13 starts in 16 appearances for the Bears last season. Sunday will see Josh Farmer, a sixth-year Bear, start on the mound.

Outfielder Treyson Hughes returns after earning Perfect Game First Team Freshman All-American and an NCBWA Freshman All-American honors last season. Hughes was named to the Preseason All-Southern Conference First Team and the Perfect Game Preseason All-Southern Conference Team this spring. The sophomore recorded the second-best batting average on the team last season at .317 while logging 14 homeruns and 53 RBI.
