
Three Players Earn Preseason All-SoCon Honors

Mercer picked to finish second in both preseason polls
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its Preseason All-Conference Teams and Preseason Polls on Thursday with Mercer finishing second in both the Coaches and Media Polls. Treyson Hughes was named to the All-SoCon First Team, and Josh Harlow and Jozsef Rohrbacher were named to the All-SoCon Second Team.
After earning All-SoCon Freshman Team honors last year, Hughes returns for his sophomore season in the outfield. This is the second preseason honor for Hughes after he was named to the Perfect Game All-Conference Team.
The Warner Robins native was the only SoCon player to be named a Perfect Game First Team Freshman All-American and an NCBWA Freshman All-American last year. Hughes posted the second-best batting average on the team at .317 last season with 14 homeruns and 53 RBI.
Harlow was named one of the two starting pitchers on the All-SoCon Second Team after finishing 7-2 last season in 15 appearances on the mound. Harlow posted a 4.92 ERA while recording 84 strikeouts in 67.2 innings pitched. The sophomore was previously named to the Perfect Game Preseason All-Conference Team this year.
Heading into his senior season, Rohrbacher was named to the All-SoCon Second Team as an outfielder. Last season, the Tallahassee, Florida, native finished with a .272 batting average and 33 runs on 36 hits.
Mercer received 41 points, including two first-place votes, in the Preseason Coaches Poll en route to a second-place finish. Wofford received 46 points and five first-place votes to slot into first. UNCG also received one first-place vote and 34 points, landing in third place.
In the Preseason Media Poll, Mercer earned six first-place votes and 122 points to claim second. The Terriers finished first again, with nine first-place votes and 130 points. Samford took third with one first-place vote and 103 points while UNCG received two first-place votes and 102 points.
Opening day for the 2023 Mercer baseball season is Friday, February 17 as the Bears take on William & Mary at 6 p.m at OrthoGeorgia Park at Claude Smith Field.
