
Mercer Men’s Soccer Welcomes Two New Players

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer Men's Soccer team has signed two new student athletes. The first is goalkeeper Trent Murphy and the second is attacking central midfielder Tomas Morales.
Trent Murphy
6-5 | Goalkeeper | Pope High School | Marietta, Ga.
Trent is a Goalkeeper from Marietta, Ga that attends Pope High School. Mr. Murphy stands at 6'5" and can control the space in the box and can make saves that require extensions. Trent can react quickly to low shots and is comfortable with the ball at his feet. Trent is a steady and vocal leader that can control a defense and keep them organized. On the pitch Trent has seen a lot of success with his club team Southern Soccer Academy MLS Next. Under the direction of Head coach Simon Davey, Trent was able to help his club team win the 2022 USLA Cup.
Head Coach Brad Ruzzo on Trent Murphy:
Trent is a big, rangy goalkeeper that we feel will develop into a top goalkeeper in our program. He has the size, reach, and shot stopping ability that can excel at the college level. We look forward to Trent coming in and competing as a goalkeeper and learning under two very good goalkeepers.
Tomas Morales
5-8 | Central Midfielder | St. Pius X Catholic High School | Peachtree Corners, Ga.
Tomas is a Central Midfielder at St. Pius X Catholic school. On the soccer field, Morales has seen a lot of success on the pitch St. Pius. He was voted as captain his sophomore through his senior year. Since taking the helm as captain, Tomas has been able to lead St. Pius X to 3 region titles and made it to the Georgia State finals in his junior year. Individually, Tomas has been voted to All-Region First-Team in his sophomore and junior year and was named First-Team All-State during his senior year. During his freshmen year, Tomas scored five goals. In his sophomore year Tomas scored 10 goals and had 5 assists. During his Junior he netted in 20 goals and had 13 assists and was named as the Team's Most Valuable Award for his High School. On a club level, Tomas plays for Concorde Fire ECNL team and has already seen success with them this year with helping them capture their division. Tomas also played for the Regional ODP team and made it into the ODP South Region 2004 Boys pool in 2019-2020.
Head Coach Brad Ruzzo on Tomas Morales:
We are excited to add Tomas to our team for the Fall of 2023. He will add depth to our midfield positions. Tomas has a great engine, covers ground, extremely hard worker but also very good on the ball. His fight and competitiveness are very high and his willingness to the little things are what makes him stand out along with his decision making.
