Mary Weston Courville Named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mary Weston Courville was named the Southern Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of April 4-10. The selection was made by the league office.
Courville went 6-0 on the week including a 4-0 showing in conference play as the Bears beat Wofford 5-2, fell to ETSU 6-1, and defeated Alabama State 4-0.
Against Wofford, Courville teamed up with Teodora Ristic at the first doubles slot to beat Georgia Fischer and Lily Woods 6-2, helping the Bears earn the doubles point. Courville clinched the match for Mercer with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Breda Brennan on court two.
The Columbus, Georgia, native earned the only point for Mercer against ETSU with a 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 win on court two against Mariya Shumeika. Courville and Ristic were the only Mercer duo to win in doubles against the Buccaneers, beating Laylo Bakhodirova and Shumeika, 6-3. This was the ETSU pair's first league loss of the season.
On her Senior Day, Courville finished a perfect week with a pair of wins against Alabama State. Courville and Ristic defeated Francesca Duca and Lizaveta Demchnko, 6-1, on court one. In singles, Courville won 6-1, 6-2 over Urska Velec to cap off the day, dropping only four games.
This is Courville's first Southern Conference Player of the Week honor. Mercer has now won the award in back-to-back weeks as Ristic was the most recent selection.
Mercer concludes the regular season with matches against Furman and UNCG on the road this week.
