HOW IT HAPPENED
Fred Wilson started on the mound and kicked the game off three up, three down, throwing 10 pitches to get the Bears through the quick inning. Mercer was unable to get anything going in the bottom of the first, but the Owls got on the scoreboard in the top of the second when Spencer Hanson hit a home run over the right field wall.Â
After Caleb Bohn took over for Mercer in the top of the third inning, the Owls had a runner on third and were ready to score. Bradley Frye would get the team out of the inning after grounding a hard-hit ball and the Bears let up no runs.Â
With the bases loaded in the top of the fourth, Bohn walked runner home. Garrett Sloan came in to get the Bears out of the inning but not without damage. The first out of the inning came when a sacrifice fly was hit to Treyson Hughes in center field with bases loaded. Hughes kept the Owls from scoring with an aggressive throw back to Sloan that prevented runners from advancing.
In the next play, KSU brought in three runs off a hit and two throwing errors. This was followed by an RBI single and a two-run homer by Donovan Cash. Jess Ackerman entered on the mound and hit the first batter he faced which loaded the bases, but he was able to get out of the inning with a strikeout.Â
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Jozsef Rohrbacher started a rally that led to three Bears on base with Trevor Austin up to bat. Austin walked and Rohrbacher reached home, and the bases were loaded again when Carter Sanford grounded out to second, bringing Eric Toth across the plate. Micah Takac entered on the bump for the sixth and faced the minimum number of batters.
In the bottom of the sixth, Conner Todaro hit a double to the right center wall and advanced to third on a throwing error. Landon Underhill came to the plate and hit a triple down the right field line to score Todaro. This was the team's third triple of the year. After the Owls changed pitchers, Underhill scored off a wild pitch and shortly after KSU would retire the inning.Â

With runners on second and third for the Owls in the top of the seventh, Posey hit a double down the left field line, and Chirello scored with just one out. After another single the bases were loaded with just one out when Cash flew out to center, scoring Posey. Conner Folds took the mound with two outs and let up a run before getting the Bears out of the inning.Â
Antonio Brown led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a home run over the left field wall for his second homer of the year. Reid Brown then notched a single before a base hit by Max Kops put runners at first and third with two outs. Todaro was up to bat, but he could not get anything going at the plate.Â

Avery Stephens took the mound for the Bears in the top of the eighth and only faced three batters, striking out two of them. Alex McKay came to the mound in the top of the ninth inning to close the game out. Frye and Austin both caught line drives and McKay struck out a batter to send the game into its final half inning. The Bears were not able to get anything going in the bottom of the ninth and the Owls went home with the win.
