Mercer Ready to Take on Georgia Tech

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program (26-15, 8-4 SoCon) will play its final road midweek game of the season against Georgia Tech (22-18, 8-13 ACC) on Tuesday, April 25 at 6 p.m. at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta.

Georgia Tech leads the all-time series with Mercer, 72-26, but the Bears have recorded a few highlight wins over the Yellow Jackets. In 2011, Mercer beat Georgia Tech in both meetings while the Yellow Jackets were ranked No. 5 and No. 9 at the time. The Bears posted wins against 12th-ranked Georgia Tech in 2013 and 23rd-ranked Tech in 2014. Most recently, Mercer took down No. 13 Georgia Tech in 2022.

Georgia Tech opened the season with nine-straight wins but has since lost more than won. Over the weekend, the Yellow Jackets traveled to Miami where the Hurricanes took the series, 2-1.

The Yellow Jackets boast the 15th-best batting average in the country at .317 off of the fourth-most hits at 461. Georgia Tech has also hit the seventh-most doubles of any school in the country this season with 101. Like the Bears, Georgia Tech has had great success with double plays this season, turning 41, which ranks third in the nation.

RECENT ACTION
The Bears are returning to the state of Georgia after an exciting 2-1 series win over VMI after scoring a total of 44 runs. Carter Sanford was named SoCon Player of the Week due to his performance including four home runs in four games while notching eight runs and nine RBI with a .667 batting average.

Ty Dalley hit his 13th home run of the season to take the lead in the Southern Conference. Eric Toth is tied for second in the conference in home runs with 12.

Mercer is 3-1 this season when playing on Tuesday with the most recent Tuesday game occurring on April 4 against FAMU in which the Bears won 19-7. The other Tuesday wins came against Georgia State and FAMU.
