
Trevor Austin Named to Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

Award honors the nation’s top shortstop
LUBBOCK, Texas – Trevor Austin was named to the 2023 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, it was announced by the College Baseball Foundation. The award honors the nation's top shortstop for both outstanding defensive performance and production at the plate.
Austin is in his sixth year with the Bears and has started every game at shortstop this season. The redshirt senior has posted a perfect fielding percentage in 38 games this spring.
On offense, Austin recorded an eight-game and a six-game hitting streak this season while logging a hit in 28 games this season. He has scored 28 runs and notched 25 RBI for Mercer this year. Austin posts the third-best batting average (.295) and third-most hits (46) for Mercer and holds one of just four triples hit by the Bears this season.
Among active career leaders, Austin ranks seventh in Division I for games played. He ranks 18th in at-bats, 26th in hits, and ninth in sacrifice bunts.
Austin is among 101 of the best shortstops in the country on the watch list. There are five other players from the Southern Conference who made the cut.
