Wesley Franklin Named to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List

Award honors the nation’s top relief pitcher
DALLAS – Wesley Franklin was named to the 2023 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List. The award honors the nation's best relief pitcher.
Franklin has made 13 appearances this season and currently ranks 11th in the country in saves with eight. The junior posts a 4.74 ERA after recording 28 hits, 13 earned runs, seven walks, and 29 strikeouts in 24.2 innings pitched.
The Lilburn, Georgia, native began the season with a save on Opening Day against William & Mary. He then notched a save in five-straight appearances against Bellarmine, Baylor, Rutgers, The Citadel, and Western Carolina. Franklin has also earned saves against Cal State Northridge and ETSU this season.
Franklin's season bests include four innings pitched and six strikeouts against The Citadel. He also struck out four batters in three innings against Baylor.
Mercer is just one of two Southern Conference schools with a reliever on the 56-player watch list.
The NCBWA will announce the finalists on Wednesday, June 7, and the winner will be named on Friday, June 16 at the 2023 College World Series.
