Tobias Jonsson Selected to NCAA DI Men’s Golf Regionals

Indianapolis, IN- Tobias Jonsson has been selected to compete in the NCAA Auburn Regional on May 15-17, his second year in a row.

"It's been a great season for Tobias," said head coach Payne. "We are ready to see him continue it this postseason."

Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams.Team and individual medalist titles will be decided May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona. Arizona State and The Thunderbirds are the hosts for the 2023 championships.

One of the six regional tournaments will take place at the Auburn University Club. The 18-hole course is a Par 72 with 7,591 yards.

Jonsson, who finished the SoCon Tournament Championship in tied for seventh, had a stroke average of 70.66 in 35 rounds this season. The third lowest stroke average among all SoCon golfers this season.

Jonsson has had four first place finishes during the 2022-2023 season. He was named SoCon player of the week after 6-under par at the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, SC March 6-7. Jonsson carded rounds of 69-65-70 on the par-70 course to clutch a first place finish.

During the month of March, Tobias was named to the top 10 in the European Golf Amateur ranking. He also got the individual medal at the World Amateur Team Championship held in Paris this past September and was the first Bear since Trey Rule (2015) to make it to the NCAA Tournament last year.
