Evans scored a career high 26 points against Kennesaw State last Tuesday
MACON, Ga. - Mercer senior forward Summah Evans was named SoCon Player of the Week for the week of January 2-8, as announced by the Southern Conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Evans is in her second season at Mercer after playing her first two seasons of college basketball at North Florida. Last season she was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Mercer played just one game last week, a 70-54 home win over Kennesaw State on January 2. It was one of Evans' best games of her career statistically, as she poured in a career high 26 points on 9-for-18 shooting. Evans went a perfect 7-for-7 from three-point range. She also had 10 rebounds for a double-double and had five steals and four blocks. Her four blocks were also a career high.
Evans' 26 points were the most points scored by a Mercer player in a game this season. Evans missed the first 13 games of the season due to an injury, but through her first three games this season, she is averaging 12.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
Evans and the Bears are set to begin conference play tomorrow, January 10 at Chattanooga. Tip off is at 7 p.m.
