Mercer Baseball Opens 2024 Season Against Toledo

MACON – First pitch of the 2024 Mercer Baseball season will be on Friday at 6 p.m. at OrthoGeorgia Park. The Bears will host the Toledo Rockets in a three-game series. Saturday's game will be at 2 p.m., and Sunday's game will be at 1 p.m.
Head Coach Craig Gibson begins his 20th season at Mercer with nine-year assistant Willie Stewart and first-year assistants Tanner Gordon and Matt Williams. MU's 2024 roster features 24 newcomers and 22 returners, including Preseason All-Southern Conference First Team selections Ty Dalley and Colton Cosper, as well as Second Team pick Wesley Franklin. The Bears finished second, seven points behind Samford, in a preseason poll of the league's head coaches.

| 2023 IN A NUTSHELL |
| Mercer finished the season with a 33-25 overall record and went 13-8 in the conference. The team snagged Power 5 wins over Rutgers and a sweep over Baylor in Waco, Texas. In conference play, MU swept ETSU and Wofford. The Bears faced No. 3 seed Wofford in the first game of the SoCon tournament, falling 16-14, and then defeated The Citadel, 8-1, but was knocked out of the tournament by UNC Greensboro, 9-5. Ty Dalley was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball and Southern Conference All-Freshman pick Jackson Cherry was one of six Bears to receive all-conference honors. |
| SCOUTING REPORT |
| Toledo finished the 2023 season with a 26-29 overall record and went 14-16 in the Mid-American Conference. The Rockets have six position players returning, including Second Team All-MAC honorees Garret Pike and Owen Jackson. Fifth-year senior Noah Johnson is expected to lead the Rockets' pitching staff after striking out a team-high 64 batters in 53.2 innings pitched. Toledo finished sixth out of 11 in the MAC Preseason Coaches Poll. |
